Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to many of the frequently asked questions that we receive.

  1. What do I need to bring on my trip?

A hat, lots of sunscreen, and a camera.  We stock a large ice chest with water and sodas.  You may wish to bring light snacks or any additional beverages you'd like to have onboard.

  2. Do I need a fishing license?

All necessary licenses are provided by the Giggling Tarpon.

  3. Is there a head (that's restroom in boat speak) on the boat?

Since the vast majority of charters on the Giggling Tarpon are 4 hours long, there is no head on the boat.  Liberty does have a head.

  4. What time shoud we arrive for our day charter?

As a rule of thumb, day charters are scheduled from 8:00 to 12:00 in the morning and from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.  However custom departure times can be arranged for a full day and sunset charters are also available.

  5. Are we guaranteed to catch fish?

While we cannot guarantee that you will catch fish, when fishing in Key West we have about a 95% chance of catching fish.

When targeting a specific species of fish ... Tarpon, Permit, Dolphin, etc, ... many factors come into play  such as time of year, migration patterns, weather and tides.  To see what should be biting during your stay in Key West, give us a call or send us an email.  We will give you the "straight scoop" on what is best to fish for during that time of year.
